Exploring atmosphere and mood

Richard Whymark BA(Ed) Hons

Richard studied Fine Art at The University of Exeter from 1989, graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art and Education. The quality of Richard’s paintings was recognised through The Dean’s Special Award in 1993.

Richard worked within the education sector until 2024, being Head of Art in a series of schools. Having recently left his work in education, Richard’s current pieces reflect his fascination with the seas, skies, landscape and unique atmosphere of the North Norfolk coast.

“As I journey along the coast and create my landscape paintings, I hope to capture the character of this unique area. Embracing natural materials, along with paint and found materials, my work is more than just an observation of a place. Elements of the work are of the place and from a moment in time.”

“The North Norfolk coast, where the sea meets the sky, offers me endless possibilities to paint and is a constant source of inspiration for my work.”
